I've been using MidJourney for a long time now, but it has some limitations and drawbacks. So I decided to purchase the Plus subscription of Ideogram. My main reason for doing this was that I wanted the ability to generate AI images with fancy text.
MidJourney messes up text and just can't get it right. I am kind of disappointed by this, as they've had a long time to get it working, and since Ideogram is so good at it, it's obviously possible.
So now I have three premium image generation software subscriptions currently active: one for Ideogram, one for MidJourney, and one for Venice AI.
My newest subscription is already my favorite, and that is the Ideogram subscription.
Midjourney vs. Ideogram
MidJourney is the original image AI generation tool, but I feel like they've been resting on their laurels and haven't been able to improve their tool as much as I would have hoped. MidJourney is excellent at generating realistic photos—they're probably the best at that. What they can't do, though, is create cool text on their images, or any text for that matter. Their text is just gibberish. This makes MidJourney not ideal for things like generating featured images for blog posts and news articles.
Ideogram is excellent at that, and it's what I'm using to generate featured images on my blog. You can get some amazing featured images with creative prompts like: "Generate Images with AI" written with fire from the hands of a wizard, which is the prompt I used to generate the featured image for this review.
Venice AI vs. Ideogram
Venice AI has a lot of things going for it. It is privacy-centric, uncensored, and affordable. However, I've found that it falls behind its competitors in most tasks. It is surely a great contender that will be interesting to follow as it gets updates.
One of the drawbacks when generating images with Venice AI is that they generate images one at a time, instead of four initial images like MidJourney and Ideogram use. This makes it take a lot more effort and time to end up with an image that you're happy with.
Venice AI can't do text images at all either. They might in the future when their models catch up. One of the cool things with Venice AI is that you can select between different image generation models.
Ideogram Pricing
Ideogram offers four different pricing tiers as I write this. The cheapest is FREE, and the most expensive is $48/month when billed annually. I went with the second most expensive option, which was $16/month when billed annually. This plan grants the ability to generate up to 4,000 images per month. The FREE option enables the creation of up to 40 images per day or per month, but it lacks upscaling, which means your images will just be 1024x1024, and also the generation queue is longer.
Conclusion
If you need an excellent tool for creating images with cool text, look no further—Ideogram is excellent! You can try it out for FREE to see if it meets your expectations before you decide on a paid subscription.
